ETHICAL ISSUES

Despite the many positive aspects of bioplastics, this new and innovated creation can not be guaranteed to reduce the amount of waste traveling around in our environment. The majority of the issues regarding pollution, revolve around the poor and unsustainable habits of not being able to pick up after yourself and dispose the trash properly. Bioplastics are only meant to be easier to manufacture and reduce the production of carbon dioxide like in conventional plastics. Overall, bioplastics may or may not begin to change the adoption and efforts of the community towards better use of keeping the ecosystem clean.

BIOPLASTICS ISSUES

Marketing and labeling plastics as "biodegradable" may not be true in some cases. Government officials and law enforcement must make precise notice when it comes to bioplastic companies as false environmental claims may come into play. For instance, California government had to file lawsuit cases against three bioplastic companies who refered their products to be "Oxo Biodegradable" meaning that the product is biodegradable. The FTC Green Guides states that bioplastic companies are required to include scientific evidence with their products that shows that it will decompose within a year to avoid these further complications.

Bioplastics require very specific materials and methods in order to produce the right outcome. Because they are highly manufactured from plants like wheat, corn, and potatoes, this may cause an effect in the nearby future on food supply for the public. As our world population begins to grow, food shortage may become an issue in order to sustain the needs of many and even require high labor production on the fields.
